Life's a Beach

Saturday, July 10th and Sunday, July 11th, 2010

LOCATION:  Vancouver, BC
WEATHER: Beauuutiful on Saturday / mostly overcast on Sunday, clearing up later in the day

Sorry for the lack of bloggage yesterday followers, we were busy doin' NOTHIN'.  Dad woke up to the horrors of a pulled hamstring, or something of the sort, flushing our beach dreams for the day down the toilet and basically ruining our entire vacation.  Just kidding, Dad, you only ruined the entire day, not the entire vacation.  Actually though, it appeared as though Dad cycled one rotation too far the day before, as he was basically down for the count when he woke up Saturday morning.  We figured we'd allow him ONE day of rest and save the beach for Sunday, but still went for a drive later in the day to scope out the situation.  That was basically our Saturday in a nutshell - a riveting blog it does not make.

And it's a good thing we waited until Sunday to hit the beach, because there was no sun and it was (Mom:) "friggin' cold!"  It wasn't aaactually "friggin' cold" but definitely not hot enough to justify immersing  your body in frigid Pacific waters. Mike opted out of the adventure, still touched by the traumas of his last car ride.  The afternoon wasn't a total bust, though, because while Mom and Dad sat on the beach wrapped in their towels, taunting sea gulls with hot dog remnants, I got to spend some time with Ms. LAURA COULSON - a friend from home who now lives in the city - before she had to head off to work for the afternoon.  So it was great to be able to catch up with her again before heading home!

After getting lost in North Vancouver for half an hour trying to get back on Highway 1, we ended up just crossing back over the Lions Gate Bridge and heading back the way we'd come - which usually works out pretty nicely.  We'll have to remember that for next time.  Mike obviously regretted not joining us for the outing,
Mike:  "Did you see any sharks?  Sea turtles?"
Me:  "Yeah, we saw 12 sea turtles, eight sharks, and two Free Willies."
That'll learn him.

Later in the day, I opened my own barber shop and spruced up all the gentleman of Burnaby Cariboo RV Park - and by "all the gentleman" I mean Dad.  His hair's been driving him nuts and he felt he was long overdue for a trim, so desperate times....  He managed the front and sides on his own and I took care of the back.  So far no pointing and guffawing from our neighbours, so I couldn't have butchered him too badly.

Later, Mike waged war with the rest of us over the temperature inside Beula, always wanting it kept at 40 below even though it wasn't even WARM outside anymore and having a severe meltdown every time the A/C was turned down - "Ughhhh, it's like the hot part of Japan in here," haha.  Temperature concerns were quickly pushed aside though when he discovered the wonder that is frozen yogurt (read: expired - but not moldy - yogurt put in the freezer as a last ditch effort) and tried to force the whole family to partake.  After Mom's feigned enjoyment upon tasting a spoonful, Mike was on his own and became a little defensive, "What?  IT'S GOOD!  IT'S GOOD AS HELL!"  Hahaha.

Mike and I hit up the pool around 10 p.m. hoping all the tots would have cleared out by then but didn't last long since his skateboard wounds (deemed "leprosy" in his own words) didn't take kindly to the chlorine.  I don't know about you, but when I'm at a public pool, there's nothing I like to hear more than, "My leprosy sores are hurting."

Bon soir!

Letting the good times roll,
